Miami has no shortage of fall races! You can run for charity, bike for a cause, or paddle across the bay for a good time. But there's only one race where the finish line leads straight to dignity for our homeless neighbors in need: the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust's “Sprint for Seniors” Bed Race.
On Friday, Nov. 6, at least 30 teams of students, professionals, community groups, and seniors will race decorated, wheeled beds across Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus in the only official bed race in Miami-Dade County, hosted by the Homeless Trust and proudly powered by our partner, Miami Dade College.
It's a spirited and thrilling way to step out and help solve one of our community's most urgent challenges: One in four unhoused individuals in Miami-Dade County is over the age of 55, making older adults the fastest-growing homeless population in our community.
Every bed in this race represents something real, a symbol of the safe place to sleep that every senior deserves, whether that's a mattress, a move-in kit, or a fully furnished kitchenette that helps a client rebuild stability after crisis. Proceeds from Sprint for Seniors go directly to the Ending Homelessness Fund, helping to make tough times temporary for our unhoused seniors, and ultimately moving them to get the help they need for long-term success.
But this race is about more than fundraising. It's about the power of showing up together. Pulling a decorated bed down K Plaza with your coworkers, classmates, or fellow volunteers builds the kind of teamwork that doesn't happen behind a desk. It's a chance for businesses, nonprofits, faith-based groups, and friends to let loose, get creative, and channel that same competitive energy toward something bigger than themselves.
Whether you're in it to win or just in it for the laughs, every team that lines up is proof that Miami shows up for its seniors. Register your team today!
